Ternary for Public Sector
Learn how Ternary supports public sector organizations, including SLED-specific terminology, deployment models, GovCloud support, and compliance considerations.
Ternary for Public Sector is designed for state, local, and education (SLED) organizations that need centralized visibility and control over cloud spending across departments, agencies, or business units. It provides the full FinOps capabilities of the core Ternary platform while aligning terminology and workflows to public sector organizational structures.
The platform enables central IT teams to manage cloud usage, costs, and optimization efforts across multiple business units while maintaining clear boundaries between departments and reporting structures.
How does Ternary for Public Sector differ from the MSP platform?
The primary difference between the Ternary MSP Platform and Ternary for Public Sector is nomenclature, not functionality.
- The MSP Admin Console is labeled as the Business Hub
- Customers and child tenants are referred to as Business Units
This naming aligns the platform with how public sector organizations typically structure departments, agencies, and operational units. Core platform capabilities remain the same.
How can Ternary for Public Sector be deployed?
Ternary for Public Sector supports two deployment models:
- SaaS deployment: A fully managed cloud offering maintained by Ternary, suitable for organizations that prefer minimal infrastructure management.
- Self-hosted deployment: Installed and operated within the organization’s own environment, often used by public sector entities that require tighter control over data residency, security, or compliance.
Deployment choice depends on organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and internal IT capabilities.
Does Ternary support GovCloud environments?
Yes. Ternary supports GovCloud accounts and billing exports across major cloud providers.
Billing exports must currently be copied to non-GovCloud storage buckets for Ternary to access and process the data. This requirement applies regardless of provider and should be considered when designing the billing export workflow.
Is Ternary FedRAMP compliant?
No, Ternary does not currently have FedRAMP compliance.
